Mission of the Degradable Solutions AG

It is our goal to develop innovative medical therapies and to substitute permanent implants by the use of Degradable Solutions for the benefit of patients.

Often, medical implants have merely a temporary function in the body. For example metallic plates and screws are used to fix fragments of broken bone until the fragments have grown together. Then, the implants are no longer needed and should be removed from the body to prevent later complications.

For bone augmentation, membranes are used to prevent ingrowth of fast growing soft tissue into a bone void. As soon as the bone defect is filled with new bone, the membrane should be removed to prevent a possible bacterial colonization.

These two examples illustrate the need for implant removal after completion of their therapeutic function. Since removal of implants requires additional costly surgery and further risks for the patients, it is often omitted.

An advantageous and elegant alternative is offered by implants made of degradable materials. After fulfilling their therapeutic function, they degrade and are resorbed from the body via natural pathways. No additional surgery is needed.

The above mentioned needs constantly drive our team to develop and manufacture new degradable implant systems!
